In September 1903 Schönberg went to Payerbach with his family for late-summer recreation after he returned from Berlin; the group included his mother Pauline, his wife Mathilde and their oneyear-old daughter Gertrude (Trudi), his sister Ottilie Kramer, her three-year-old son Fritz Walter and Schönberg’s brother Heinrich, while Alexander Zemlinsky and his mother Klara joined along. The group photo was probably taken in the garden of Villa Rumpler (now Bahnhofweg 1) in Payerbach, where the Schönbergs had their holiday home.
