Schönberg stayed in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera from June 1928 to January 1929, where he lived in the Pavillon Sevigné near the Monte- Carlo border. “I’ll probably be staying here for quite a while yet, because I have been working very well despite the heat. The variations for large orchestra [op. 31] were finished on the 21st and I am already completing the full score.” (Arnold Schönberg to Universal-Edition, August 28, 1928)
